Alan Smith (Scott Tracey) is a fairly lonely guy, sitting on a bench, feeding the ducks, passing each day as it comes. He never seems to work, claiming he is independently wealthy. He strikes up a friendship with a man named John Winters (Darren Ahearn) whom he meets one cold spring morning. But is Winters really an insurance salesman like he says he is? And is there more to Alan's story, something hiding in the past? And just who is Walter?
This one was written in a single day and shot over the next two, in a bit of a rush before Scott went off to Spain for, well, a while. A sad loss to bass playing and acting. Though he came back in time to leave again half way through our next project, which you won't be seeing here. The sound is a bit ropey, and I think I finally learnt about [short] films with twists - you still need something to sustain interest in between opening shot and your oh-so clever reveal. So I like the last scene, but as a whole story it doesn't make much sense. Shot in black and white on MiniDV with 2 Cast and 1 Crew (director/camera/me). Notes to self: get a crew, especially a sound recordist of some sort. It will save a lot of hassle in the edit. A lighting guy to stand and hold a reflector would have also been good, as some of the shots needed adjusting in the computer which took away a bit of their sharpness. The movie is 9mins long, so it may not appear for a while. Computer FX were done with AlamDV v1. All the music is original, and ©2002 Monday Night Pictures (Scott Tracey - bass, Pete Nairne - guitar)
